february critique pieces

my concentration is using pods and seeds in nature to represent a feeling of containment and growth. recently i have been thinking about giving life-like qualities to them, hence the blue one with the orange pods that kind of look like they're talking. i kind of hit a road block because i got bored with my concentration and really regretted doing it, but i think i have some inspiration for more layered pieces for the next critique. i like the orange pod piece, but i feel like it needs something more and if anyone has any ideas feel free to let me know. the hand and pomegranite seed one was super last minute and i'm mad that i didn't get it done earlier because it looks really bad.

I understand were your coming from with the last minute thing, i do that too. I just suggest giving it more value (mostly in the hand and seed, it would give it a feel of depth on the canvas). the orange seed one seems loud to me, which i LIKE. the balance between the two seeds gives it a nice feel and movement through out the piece. i'm getting bored of my concentration as well, but i just suggest trying to finde something you like and incorporate that into one of your pieces

You know what I just noticed? Your blue and orange piece looks really similar to one of your previous paintings. I don't know if that was intentional or not. The complimentary colors in the second piece work well, and pop the buds (is that what they are? They always look like venus fly traps to me) nicely. The unblended, chunky background works well with the smooth blending of the buds. I like the contrast between them.

I agree that the hand and pomegranate seed one needs more work, but I like the concept and I think if you put some more time into it, it would turn out really cool.
The contrast and color you have in your pieces add a lot to their impact, especially the one with the blue background. The contrasting colors and texture give it a lot of dimension that make it really interesting to look at. Especially the white gives the appearance of movement coming from the orange plants (?).
Maybe think about pushing the envelope even more with your concentration. Are there any concepts of seeds/seed pods that would not be literal or initially obvious? Where are seeds and seed pods found? what do you do with seeds and seed pods/what are their effects? Just some food for thought :]
