FINAL BLOG ENTRY

yay the year's almost ended. it is kind of bittersweet. here is the link i'm supposed to put in this entry:

http://lhs.loswego.k12.or.us/z-mcbrides/AP/2009/09APbreadthconcentration.htm

so this year was pretty fun... i'd say that i learned a lot about myself as an artist. i have definitely learned that i procrastinate too much and that maybe i should've picked a different concentration. i just don't know what to do with 12 paintings of seeds and pods... but overall i'd say this year was beneficial. i was proud of the fact that i finished all 12 pieces and generally liked all of them, but i feel like i could've spent more time on each one of them to make them the best they could be. i maybe should've experimented with more different mediums, and perhaps could've found a bigger variety of pods. i wish i had also done more abstract works instead of just putting the object on the canvas, but i think i improved that as the year went on. advice: be happy! i feel like art is the best when it's beneficial to those who make it. who cares what others think of your art as long as you are satisfied with it? have a good year AP students! be nice to ms mcbride and she'll be nice to you!

alright.. now that we're down to our last couple of pieces i'm stressing out. i feel like i need to go back and redo like all of my pieces.. and i'm just really not liking the pod idea i think i would recommend to anyone thinking of a concentration to not do pods.. or podz.. i just had really wanted to paint a grapefruit. i kinda like my pine cone piece though.. i feel like i want to do one with hands and acorns or something cuz i feel like i need to make an interesting art piece that actually makes people think and think that it is controversial.. basically i'm just stressing hardcore. maybe i'll do another encaustic i really like those..

concentration pieces from january

i still have to find pictures of these because they are not done so just pretend there are pictures of them up. the first one was the black background with the hand holding the half of a pomengranite. i actually liked this one because i kind of abstracted the idea of the fruit.. i messed up on the skin tone though i usually have problems with that. and the background is kind of boring. i don't even want to talk about my other piece, i'm planning on completely redoing it if and when i have time. its the greenish one with 3 pomengranites on it from a top view..? i had a cool idea for it but i just didn't spend enough time on it at all. and the colors turned out weird. probably my worst piece yet.. but it kinda has inspired me to work all that much harder on these last 4 pieces though..

ideas!

so i have decided what to do for my next concentration pieces. i think i should try drawing one of them since i don't have any that are drawn, so i'm thinking 2 s side by side pieces, one drawn of a closed fist and the other opened to show an acorn or something.. it kind of shows containment and growth i guess? i'm thinking either graphite or charcoal.. i am not sure. the second one is gonna be layered with circles expanding outwords and maybe like a tree coming out of an acorn.. sounds lame but i promise i have a really cool vision! k bye

february critique pieces

my concentration is using pods and seeds in nature to represent a feeling of containment and growth. recently i have been thinking about giving life-like qualities to them, hence the blue one with the orange pods that kind of look like they're talking. i kind of hit a road block because i got bored with my concentration and really regretted doing it, but i think i have some inspiration for more layered pieces for the next critique. i like the orange pod piece, but i feel like it needs something more and if anyone has any ideas feel free to let me know. the hand and pomegranite seed one was super last minute and i'm mad that i didn't get it done earlier because it looks really bad.

art from art 1 and/or 2..?

its interesting to see the differences. i remember i was really feeling that ocelot one.

ap art retreat!

i had a lot of fun at the art retreat. it was raining, but it was really fun. i rode bikes and made a really crappy tie dye shirt. i also did this art piece, which is really a.d.d. and looks like a 4-year-old did it. but i kind of like the colors. my two pieces of paper said "paint over something you've already done" and i forget what the other one said. i really was feeling that hexagon shape. aka hexicon.

life drawing

this is from the life drawing with the gypsies/belly dancers. yay.

old sketchbook stuff

these are from last year!

hereissomeofmyartworkfromlastyear

its interesting to see the progression? my favorite is the yellow encaustic one.

CONCENTRATION

my concentration is pods. i might spell it with a z, because it seems classier. that would make it "podz."

portland inspired

this piece was inspired by a bike with a watering fountain attached to it that i saw in downtown portland... it was a weird angle and really challenged me... i like how it turned out because i worked through it really fast and stayed loose woo!

art from 3/4

1. my dog daisy! (#1) this was the glazing project... 2. self portrait project... 3. a painting of an anorexic girl that i did for our social commentary project

summer art

one of these is my dog daisy (#2)... i'm really proud of it because it was so quick and loose and lifelike... i had a lot of fun making the background and really like how it turned out. another piece (the ice cream one) was meant to be a commentary on healthy eating (notice the newspaper articles in the background) and how its easy to get tempted... by ice cream? its covered in the plastic that came on my canvases... i had fun experimenting but dont know how much i like it slash it was more just for fun... in the piece with the 3 lines and the birds flying i was trying to go a little more graphic. it was an experimental piece too, and i kinda like it... the piece with the daisy was inspired by a picture i took... i realllly like the background cuz its simple and clean and bright... i'm not sure how much i like the daisy though.
